My Veil is my Pride

For some women who have claimed to be Muslims ONLY in name, wearing a veil or covering oneself with garments as have been prescribed by Allah, is a means of restraint, oppression, degradation and a threat to their plans. They feel, wearing it could derail their success in life-in school, workplace, community and the world.

On the other hand, there are also women of Islam (I include myself) who have been really proud of their veils. For us, wearing it is a sign of freedom, confidence, modesty, and opportunity to be able to pull through in this most challenging world. Despite our hijab, we humbly say, Alhamdulillah the world has not left us behind in terms of education, finding a job, dealing with people of all races and status in life, but instead, we've able to stand out in our own little ways. We've proven to the world, that our veil is not a hindrance to attaining our dreams in life but rather, it's a blessing from God to let us reveal what we've really got despite the cover we have.. So, it's so self-fulfilling to have been able to stand out though..
